Last week we held a showcase event for the Digital WomenâÂÂs Network (DWN) â a member-led organisation for women who work and play in the digital industry. It was a great evening, and a real eye-opener; the women are a passionate and talented bunch who really put their heart and soul into their work.
Among the impressive presenters was Lyn Hagan who is ambitiously aiming to put art on Mars â what is fascinating about this is LynâÂÂs sheer determination to make this unlikely event happen, and sheâÂÂs on schedule for take off in 2013.
Ellie Lands, a talented animator who has just received a fellowship with Digital City, wowed the crowd with an animation about the Berlin Wall and the perceived way of life for either side.
Vi Chong is another inspirational female using digital technology to make something special. SheâÂÂs a VJ â a video jockey â so instead of mixing music she mixes video footage, to stunning effect. And itâÂÂs not pre-meditated at all; everything is mixed live in front of your eyes.
WeâÂÂre really keen to get everyone digitally playing and working and are planning to run some free workshops through the autumn to help women in the region develop their skills.
These are some of the topics weâÂÂre thinking about running:
Getting a website
Specification, pricing, finding a supplier, receiving supportâÂÅ
Pure technology
Video clip and audio use, social networking websitesâÂÅ
Art of self-promotion
Confidence building, professional image, selling skillsâÂÅ
DVD Showreels
How to author, tricks and tips, keeping them updatedâÂÅ
Open your creative mind
How to be, and express, creativity to othersâÂÅ
Work in community sector
What it is, how to access it, success storiesâÂÅ
Starting a business
How, why, when and what forâÂÅ
If you are interested in any of these topics please get in touch; call Suzy Jackson on 0191 487 2002.
