Happy Liberation Day Rwanda!

Posted by Andrew Mernin on July 4, 2008 5:41 PM |

Today is an important date in Rwandan history. July 4th 2008 marks the 14th year of peace and prosperity following the end of the Genocide against Tutsis.

The progress that this small nation in the heart of Africa has made is astonishing in light of the forces that aligned against it.

Ceremonies will be occurring all over the country with the official ceremony being held in Muhanga District, Southern province.

This anniversary comes at a time when tremendous social, political and economic transformation across the country is noticeable.

So, what does development look like in Rwanda? Well their per capita income (the amount of money each individual receives of the country’s yearly income) has increased, there are now two high standard shopping centres up and running, new roads, water systems and electricity grids are being built and the internet service is the cheapest and fastest in Africa.

These improvements are not going unnoticed as tourism is at an all time high and new venues are springing up all over the country.

Rwanda is now part of the East African Community and is largely viewed as a land of opportunities and prosperity.

I hope you can join me in wishing Rwanda a Happy Liberation Day and many more years of stability, peace and prosperity.
