I get excited by new things, it might be policy, electronics, ways of doing things if it is new. Like shiny things to a magpie and lights to moths the attraction is absolute. There is a price to pay for being an early adopter, but I'm generally happy to pay the price. Lee Moor is an example of the long history of firsts that I am so keen on.
My only worry is the saying " It's the second mouse that gets the cheeses!"
So why am I so excited by all things new, why pay £1,000 for a mobile phone when waiting a few years would see the price fall dramatically? Somebody has to and I am a psychological profile which sees sense in it. Indeed I plan to make a living from being 'ahead of the curve'.
As a non-executive director of several companies my job is to 'horizon scan' and to keep my thoughts feeding in on what the next big threat or opportunity may be for society and the company. So what about new media.....what are my thoughts on that.
I am young at heart but realise that my generation is only now signing into Facebook and blogging and more latterly Twittering has been a struggle. The truth is that much of this information flow is rapidly moving up the age range and also from the world of social to business.
I have watched Heather Gorringe for a number of years and when I saw her as the face of Google adword I thought that she was well on the way to marking out the business efficacy of a tool that was more about young people keeping in tabs with each other.
I hate missing an opportunity, I love technology, I enjoy networking, I love words and being quick witted. When you think about it Twitter and Facebook were made for me...and my farm...and my restaurant.....and my renewables business....and my new water business....and my outside catering business....and the business park and well okay then my alter ego too.
I held back from hyperlinks here...Google Yahoo away....go on you must be wondering...have a look. It's all about emotional intelligence and human nature.
Well have to go and tweet to say the blog is now up....what did we do before computers came along?
